Halloween Prep Time - Katamari In Mai Hart 4EVR

The magic time that is Halloween is but days away. If you are anything like me (and for humanity's sake, let's hope you aren't), you probably are excited. If you aren't, you are probably dead inside. For the past few years, I have made my own costumes and this year is no exception. Grab yourself a hot glue gun and let's get to making Halloween!

Let me share with you the joy of my current fave video game - Katamari Damacy. It is probably one of the best games ever. This year saw the release of Katamari Forever, which was basically Katamari squared times infinity plus fun. In this game, the King of the Cosmos did some no no's and knocked all the stars/planets out of the sky. You, The Prince, must roll a Katamari (a giant ball that gathers objects) all about the globe to make stars. It is simple and more fun than a barrel of monkeys (and there's way a less chance of you getting body lice or something).

I decided that this year, I would be this little a version of this little bloke -

Once PanasonicYouth got wind of my tasty costume, he man-raeged me and stole it. Now, this is what Mark is going to be and I am going to be one of the Katamari Cousins -

I am going to be the one in the top right corner. Yay! Ok so now, here is how I made The Prince :)

First, I had to meander my way into the trenches of Downtown Los Angeles for fabrics and other crafty supplies. I needed felt, regular fabric, poster board, foam circles, adhesive hemming tape, glue sticks, and a hot glue gun. Fun times were had, but mostly not.

To make the head for the Prince, I shaped the poster board into a cylinder. I got my green fabric and cut some to place over the poster board. I then used the hemming tape and ironed it to the posterboard.

After all of that was done, the hardest part came unto me like the plagues of Egypt. I was baffled and for the most part beaten by crafts. I shook my fist to the Gods of the Bedazzler. To make the ends of the Katamari head round, I needed my foam circles. I then had to make a rounded shape with some other pieces of the circles that I cut with a knife. That was easy. The shaping of the fabric ruined my life. I cannot really sew so I just cut pieces out and glued them to the end piece. I then got some felt and covered the top of the end piece.

Here is the covered end piece -

I placed the end piece into the cylinder and just used my trusty hot glue gun. Whomever invented that should be given a Nobel Peace Prize because they have enabled people to make the world a more beautiful place via arts and crafts.

The face was pretty easy to make. I used felt squares that fit inside of each other. I cut the eyes, nose and lips out of felt and fabrics. Yay!

Almost done! All that was left was to cut some trim to make some lines on the side of the face and the yellow cone/red ball on the top of the head. I just cut those shapes out and hot glued like there was no tomorrow.

So that's how I made the head. I got some purple tights for the legs and now just need a green shirt. That shouldn't be too hard to get. Did anyone else make costumes? Here's to Halloween! Go get some candy!

Thank you for making my day. This, my friend, is quite fantastic. Not only have you succeeded in making a homemade costume (which I do every year, only once in my life have I had a store bought costume) but you have made the Prince from Katamari Damacy. I think you are my hero.

You are a creative mastermind.
I was going to be a trash can, but I could not find the proper materials with which to make this zany idea work, so I wound up wearing a duct tape dress and a Yetti mask. I told everyone I was a comic book character.

Next you should run a workshop on how to make awesome costumes.
